Another Day, Another Suckout

BBT4 ended pretty much the way I ran in BBT2-BBT4.

Some donkey shoves A-rag and cracks KK when rag trips or some donkey shoves A-rag to crack my AK when his rag hits.

God bless the A-rag jizz in their pants shovers, until they are rewarded.

/end of waffles channeling.

Thursday Wisdom

Demon Child had her wisdom teeth removed today by Dr. Beech.

You show up in waiting room 30 minutes early, get the intial drugs to sedate in waiting room and hang out with the parents of the child currently undergoing removal. When done they have parents pull car to door near side exit "so it is a shorter walk" but I have to believe secondary reason is so no one waiting for procedure sees patient who has swollen cheeks upon exit.

He seems to be a minimalist when it comes to anesthesia as kid was alert and at her normal levels of ornery without being in any pain for 1st 7 hours (and counting) after removal. She is napping a lot today as she did not get that much sleep last night and is stuck drinking her calories today.

Overall I am quite pleased with Dr. Beech and would recommend.

In $5k PLO I exited flopping top set and 2nd flush draw. Got all in on flop but you can't make a flush draw fold and it got there.

I do wonder if he also goes to felt on a club flush draw?

Most retarded part of the hand is A223 was UTG in PLO (high only) and limped than called BB pot raise.

Bluffing in PLO

The most common bluff in PLO is the "bare Ace" bluff.

I have a few suggested rules for it's implementation:
1) Do not try in games below $100 buy in.
2) Do not run bluff into Euro who seems to raise any double suited (this means most Euros).
3) You can't spell Canadian or Calling Station without the "Ca" do not bluff most canadians.
4) Never bluff an Aussie or Kiwi

I was doing okay in the Mookie until sellthekids started hitting A-rag like it owed him money.

Key of course to hitting Ace rag is to shove it or call it quickly because you really believe you are ahead. I have tried to adjust my game to believe but sadly I can not overcome the knowledge that face cards outrank napkins.

PLO 6 Max on stars

Congrats to LJ for TOC seat win in skillz!

I hate that on stars cards don't show in cash when all in until river is dealt!!

I have been transitioning my PLO game from full ring to 6 max and it boggles my mind how many people will commit their stacks with hands that would be good in hold 'em but I would have never commited stack with in PLO last year.

RIP Dragon Slayer

Good Game demon child.

Each Survivor season daughter chooses her pick to root for leaving me to select one of the others. DC chose Taj and I quickly narrowed field to JT or coach. Despite my southern roots I felt compelled to pick Coach due to the huge potential to tilt daughter.

Most of the show I would whisper 'dragon slayer" just to trigger an outburst, I have never tilted anyone (yes I mean anyone!) at a poker table to the extent I tilted daughter. Wife was at a neighbor's during 1st scream and rushed home to see if we were under attack.

When Stephen betrayed the Dragon Slayer a 5 minute gloat followed.

It is just sad our game ended one episode sooner than it had to.

The Mechanics of a Seat Sale

1.) Agree to deal terms.
2.) Person taking money sits out.
3.) Person taking seat raises to steal blinds until person taking money is all in with either blind.
4.) Win seat or go to step 2

That is all.

Good Fences make Good Neighbors

Unfortunately apartments only have exterior fence and safety fence around the pool area.

We have neighbor who claims to have Arizona house, a beach house in Huntington beach and a manor in England. If true she is quite bitter about living in an apartment now or is just by her nature unpleasant.

Yesterday while I was playing PLO8 min FTOPs my wife was using common area office and computer when neighbor entered to use 2nd computer along with her young son. The boy decided to turn the fan off and my wife asked if he could turn it back on as she was a little warm.

I am sure she asked pleasantly but does occaisonally have a whiny tone in her voice. The bitter mom reacted and said "you don't own this place, we want fan off", "never speak to my son like that again you are beneath us" and "your daughter is a little monster take care of her before speaking to someone else's child" and really got in wife's space. Apartment assistant manager had overheard confrontation and did pull wife aside and made sure she was okay and asked her to write a letter of complaint and coached her on points to highlight to send to apartment manager. Wife was still trembling and very visibly upset when she got to apartment.

Important note:
Bayne <----- oblivious engineer who rarely notices emotions.

I did put down computer and grabbed my shoes to confront this woman but wife insisted I do nothing.

I soon tilted out of mini-FTOPS and went to common area since I knew my wife had headed back there to print letter. On my way I did pass a little boy and a short woman but having never met the woman did not say anything. When I got to common area assitant manager spotted me first and alerted wife I had arrived. Wife told me she had just left so I asked if it was that "troll of a woman in gray top". They confirmed identity, wife told me again she was okay and requested again I do nothing so I came back to apartment. Wfie was relieved when she returned to find me in apartment.

Wife was supposed to have a metting with the apartment manager's boss (manager is in Hawaii) to talk about incident. Boss man had also left message for troll, identified himself and left number but had not mentioned exact purpose of call. Troll got pissed that he had called her phone went to office and was yelling. What we heard 2nd hand was "I pay rent you work for me", "never call me again" and "learn your place".

My wife's meeting was deemed no longer required everything said in letter was credible.

Troll was already planning to move out in June, there will be a party for residents when it happens as she has pissed off many of the other neighbors as well.

Ship the Pop Bets

FullTilt has a ton of promotions going along with FTOPS and mini-FTOPS so far I have managed to qualify for 8 of the $1k pirze fund freerolls. 4 of which are the Roach skill tournies.
I managed to roach to level 10 in 5 tournies by event 11 so all those who placed this bet which must have been at 1:5 odds can party like it's 1999.
I finally booked my June WSOP trip.
I will be in Las Vegas June14-21, targeted event is $2500 PLO. I was not quite sure how I was going to convimce the wife that going to Las Vegas while unemployed was a good idea but the Venetian sent me an email offer that included 2 Phantom of Opera Tix and 4 free nights. Today Wynn was kind enough to send an offer for 3 nights + some free slot play.
Wife has wanted to stay in both of these properties instead of the Harrah's properties she usually sees.
I have a Wynn card but play was restricted to some a couple of hours of Video poker on a 99.9% return Jacks or Better machine to qualify for brunch buffet and made $75 on that.
Times must be bad in Las Vegas.

I heart mini FTOPS

Had this brief conversation at 3rd break (apologies for unauthorised quote):

me: I made another break
would be nice if I had chips
lj: shoooooooove
I had ~ 8 BBs
3 hours later I lost a blind vs. blind flip with 66 vs AK when we were both top 20 stacks.
Leen Machine took 4th for $11k, I exited 44th.
I had KK hold up 4 times in tourney including one spot where I had to fade 13 river outs and had 2 big blind v blind suckouts to make the money, thought it was my day. If my pp had been any bigger pp other than KK I would have won flip.
I do like getting to have almost the excitement of big FTOPS at 1/10 the dent in bankroll

A Dark Day

I was saddened to learn yesterday that Manny Ramirez is having difficulty ovulating and was forced to seek a medical solution. There is no chance I could write a better piece on the matter than Jayson Stark or Bill Simmons. Jayson captures the outrage I feel and Bill captures the pain.

W00t Jason Bay!

If you are Theo Epstein are you heading to Vegas for hookers and blow to celebrate today?

I stayed up way too late last night watching the cash game on Poker after Dark and an epic battle on a 6-Max PLO table (I lost $50 over span of 188 hands)

In this corner from Ireland KKfisher

and in this corner machingunian from the USA who may be most aggro PLO player I have ever seen.

Machingunian raised 41 of 90 hands, I chose to maintain my normal style and fold a lot and try to pick spots. Biggest leak for me in battle was failing to protect hands on turn but am not sure that machingunian was not feeling "god switch" and may have actually saved myself money. The couple of times I looked up what felt like a river bluff I ran into the nuts that were backdoor draws.

KKfisher tried to go toe to toe in the center of ring and it was just not pretty watching buy in after buyin disappear with me not collecting.

Happy CInco de Mayo

This was move I really liked as response. His rook can't move, I just have to make sure if he plays Qxc5 that I can find a way to move queen with check so I can capture queen.
Living in Northern Mexico (until US stole to get the gold) the Cinco de Mayo celebrations are big. I could trolley to downtown and join the celebration but Today Show just did a story where Margarita's have 900 calories. Not sure I want to spend 7 hours in gym to work off a buzz.
Besides skillz is PLO tonight.

Chivalry Not Well Received

Saw a story on the Today Show this morning about an 11 foot alligator taking up residence on a Tampa woman's front porch. Demon child was not amused when I said "ladies 1st" as we got to front door to go to school. Wife's reaction was "you wouldn't do that to my baby". DC was also not amused when I held garage door for her. Kid was smiling but was looking forward to me having to go home and "take my punishment like a man".

Last night I was looking at chess position below:

I thought I was looking for a way to pull out a draw because my expectation was that opponent has to play Rd5.

Happily I found a response that leads to victory.

Today's Chess Quiz question is what is move I found???

Been Playing the Hammer

I am relatively pleased with My Brute's performance but I wish he would pick up the hammer every fight (and hang onto it).
I was less pleased with my performance in Skillz.
I may have limited experience playing Stud8 and am left with constant feeling that I am so close to having a good Omaha 8/b hand, but there is no fucking reason for me to think I can run over pushmokey and get him to fold in any game. His pair of 6s were ahead on 3rd and 6s up were ahead on 4th. I thought I had folded enough door Aces to achieve split As credibility. Lucko believed (or bricked), thinking push would fold is a major leak.

Running Like Crap

Got stacked 3 times in PLO cash yesterday:

Top set + straight on rainbow flop, lost to top 2 pair and side pot to straight, when both went runner runner flush.

Top set lost to top 2 pair + gutshots twice where both times 2 of a suit were on flop.

I also lost numerous 70/30s.

Ran only child bad in the Brit blogger game when I ran TT into AK and AA and failed to fold TT against a better hand and also failed to suck out.

muhctim calls 3,070, and is all in
cloud71 folds
bayne_s has 15 seconds left to act

This was my dilemma:
I am absolutely convinced Joanne has AK or AQ, muhctim I am sure is JJ+ or AK (later play convinces me I gave too much credit) which means I am calling less than 1970 to win 8k as probably 4.5:1 dog but calling another 1635 as 55% fav

bayne_s calls 3,805
Joanne1111 shows [As Kc]
muhctim shows [Ah Ad]
bayne_s shows [Tc Td]

turns out I am 65% for side pot and 19% for main. Mathematically expected value of call is !4100 chips so in cash I have to call. If I win I have chip stack that is Astin sized but from chip utility standpoint fold probably better.

muhctim wins the main pot (10,660) with two pair, Aces and Nines

Worst part about hands like this is I get distracted subsequent hands wondering was math correct?? Was it right chip utility decision??

Riverchasers is next.

Injustice at the Mookie

At the Mookie this week 83 runners sat down and played down to 8. Since there was no October 8 promotion preparing everyone for this scenario the BCS decided Pauly was the winner.

Pauly was kind enough to provide me the data I was curious about:
When a tournament is cancelled after it reaches the money, according to tournament rule 31.3:

* All remaining players will have their tournament fee of $1.00 refunded and be awarded with the next guaranteed payout of the tournament, $33.20.

* The remaining prize pool will be divided and distributed according to chip count - (Remaining Prize Pool)*(Your Chip Count)/(Total Chips in Play) = Your Share of Remaining Prize Pool.

In your case, this means $551.95*104891/249000=$232.40
Tournament Fee Refunded: $1.00+ Next Guaranteed Payout: $33.20+ Your Share of Remaining Prize Pool: $232.40
Total Amount Credited to Your Account: $266.60

I looked at Tilt's tourney payout page and saw that for 83 runners 1st should get 32%.

.32*83*$10 = $265.60

So WTF is it right that Pauly gets more than 1st Place Money?????????

As someone who has rightfully earned a reputation as a roach, and had strangers call me a roach, I think it is unfortunate to be denied a chance to win a tournament on felt (real or virtual) while you still have chips. But don't think there is a better way to award TOC seat.

Now everyone go give Hoy a hug so he'll feel better.

A cameo blog post

My exercise program took a hit last week when I wore a pair of socks that were a little big and managed to get massive blisters on both heels. I tried to drain, bandage and wear 2 pairs of socks but result on Wednesday was a blister within a blister on left heel. Since Wednesday I have only worn shoes the 4 hours I was at a job interview.

Yesterday I got ITM in the $4k KO PLO only to exit with top set against bottom set on flop due to runner runner straight. Hold and I am top 4 stack instead net $1.22. Since I have been running bad at poker I opted to apply what I have learned about Mafia Wars to start a new id and use an optimised strategy

The Don above was created during skillz last week. I bragged to waffles that I had certainly found an exploit.

To quote Waffles:
"due you need to get a job"
"dude"
"lol"
