March 1 Weight

Warning there is a picture of feet again!

But not until bottom.

Goal for the year of 52 pounds still seems achievable but have finally figured out what "on pace" would mean.

A calorie deficit of 134750 works out to 449/day.

I found a chart that helps me examine impact of weight loss on calorie burn:

Activity (1-hour duration)Weight of person and calories burned
160 pounds (73 kilograms)200 pounds (91 kilograms)240 pounds (109 kilograms)
Walking, 3.5 mph 277 346 414

Thank god the chart seems linear so I will assume currently at 260 pounds I will burn 448 calories/hour and at 220 pounds I will 380 calories/hour. But for analysis purposes 410/hour should work as it would be burn over average weight if I reach goal.

Over the last 2 months (other than 2 weeks with calf injury) I walked 12 miles week to achieve calorie deficit of 5250/week so the walking portion of my week will drop from 1627 to 1435. Rest of activity should also consume 8% fewer calories at average weight which would still only be a shade over 400 calories/week hit on deficit.

I am comfortably on pace but long way to go.

Chess

Bayne Waffles
1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 d6
Hate playing against Philidor so choose a rarely used line hoping to transpose.
3. c3
Waffles makes strange choice to move pawn twice in an opening
d5
4. exd5 Qxd5
Now we are into some strange Scandinavian like variant where I can't harass Queen.
5. d4 Nc6
6. dxe5 if you are going to give me pawn it would be rude to decline
6 ..... Qxd1
7. Kxd1 b6
one of waffles other games opponent is crushing him after fianchetto of bishop
8. Bg5 mainly want to bring out Knight without blocking bishop, Bf4 probably better
8 .... f6
9. exf6 trading off overextended pawn to get 2 isolated pawns on waffles kingside
9... gxf6
10. Bf4 diagram

Ne5 - terrible move, just surrenders material
11. Nxe5 fxe5
12. Bxe5 Bg4+
13. Ke1 - terrible move Kc2 so if Bf5 Bd3
Rd8 - terrible move o-o-o clears K from e8 allowing for bishop pin
14. Bb5+ - f3 then take the rook on h8
Kf7
15. Bc4+ - f3 followed by taking Rook on h8 or at least winning Bishop on g5
Kg6
16. f3 Nf6
17. Kf2 Bc5+
18. Kg3 h5
19. Bxf6 Kxf6
20. fxg4 hxg4

21. Rf1+ - WTF
take the stupid pawn on g4 and just grind out connected passed pawn
Kg5
22. h4+ Rxh4
23. Na3 Rd2
24. Rf5+ Kxf5
25. Kxh4 Rxg2

26. Rf1+ Bf2+ my punishment for not taking pawn
27. Rxf2+ Rxf2
28. Kg3 Rxb2
29. Nb5 a6
30. Nxc7 Kg5
31. Bb3 a5
32. c4 Rb1
33. Nd5 Rf1
34. Nxb6 Rf3+
35. Kg2 Kf4

I think because UI can win with knight + Bishop I can grind out win if I find a way to force rook for pawn exchange
36. Nd5+ Ke4
37. Ne7 g3
38. c5 Rf2+
39. Kxg3 Ke3 1-0

Kudos to Goat

I made an effort to get home in time to play the Mookie last night. 42 runners last night is a huge step to revitalizing blogger poker and the Survivor Poker has led to some awesome rants, some delusional smack talk, and a lot of chat and prop bets.

Also congrats to JamyHawk for being last Survivor (to quote Josie "Team Donkey may be stacked, but that's not because of YOU JamyHawk" for that I have to add you to blogroll.

Daytona

Growing up in south I should be a bigger fan of Nascar, but I outgrew my need to drive fast when I spun my Ford Escort on I-95 when a retread wrapped around one of my front tires.

Only race I've watched in last 20 years prior to yesterday was the last few laps of Dale Earnhardt's career 10 years ago. There was just nothing spectacular about the crash to indicate that he had died when it happened until you realize the idea of the car body flying all over the place is to absorb the momentum and peel away for the drivers safety.

Watching Trevor Bayne win made for a funny day watching the sports crawler during day whenever they announced Daytona results.

Weekend can't get here fast enough

I got a new task at work, have to be ready March 14 to begin testing. I am one of two HW engineers that will be heavily involved. Other dude has a pregnant wife with a March 13th due date.

Facebook really has changed the world, 1st Egypt then I learned of an Uncle's death yesterday from a cousin's Facebook status message. I tried to call mom immediately after but got no answer. She sent me an email 6 hours later letting me know of Scotty's passing. Death was unexpected but it shouldn't have been, he had a stroke a few years ago and was still drinking hard. I think the two tours in Vietnam haunted him until the end.

Running Props

By now most of us have read:

about the running 70 miles in 24 hours prop bet.

After January 2007 when I watch 4 poker players wagering who would duck last on tail section of rivercat passing under bridges it is easy for me to believe anything is possible when too much money and testosterone is involved.

Grange has opted to shred Haseeb for his role in jeopardizing Ashton's health. I have to admit my 1st reaction to part 1 was to find one of my co-workers to ask him if he could run 70 miles in 24 hours. His answer was "I ran 112 a few years ago". Dude is currently training for the "Deathride" but he is planning to do this on a tandem bike with his 9 year old son.

I have no idea what drives my co-worker to push himself but he does it with no wagers involved.

Ashton and Haseeb are in a community where no one gets out of a bet for free so once the wager is made they do find themselves stuck seeing it through. I think Haseeb wrote his post because he is evaluating the moral implications of what transpired. It will be interesting to see what happens next for Ashton and Haseeb.

Single Parenting

My wife went on a trip to LA returning during Super Bowl leaving me as a single parent (of sorts) for week. Other than an occasional rushed trip to school because someone missed the bus it really didn't seem that difficult.

I did have to prepare dish we brought along to Chako's Super Bowl gathering which featured a few genuine Cheeseheads and a Favre fan front running his way back into fold. Demon Child decided to wear her 49ers jersey to game which seemed strange to me but I decided to throw my Bucs jersey on as well to deflect any teasing. The wife and Demon are not the biggest sports fans in the world but daughter does like playing with puppy and wife got a restful nap during 2nd half. Decent game, it is nice that Super Bowls are not blowouts anymore (although I can speak from experience blowouts are better when you are a fan of team in lead).

I am not ashamed to admit I laughed out loud when this ad played:

Demon did not find ad nearly as funny but others in room may have appreciated.

I did ask daughter if she was going to issue a favorable report on Demon Daddy week. Her response was "Don't get your hopes up". Wife has noticed that although she has been back 3 days she has received no negative reports of the time so may not be so worried about how we will get along next trip.

Hopefully some day I will play poker again and have something worth writing about.

No feet

Sorry Scott can't show progress from wager in weight loss. Having right foot on scale is painful and left supporting most of the weight lead to wide fluctuations in measured weight.

I do have picture of injured calf at bottom of post so those who did not like view of feet should stop reading now.

Last two weeks I have been taking a break from poker, work has been kicking my ass and have had a bad mindset from not being able to exercise. Today at lunchtime my walking returned to a normal gait. There is still a little bit of pain at random intervals and it feels like it is a stabilizing action that causes pain when there is a slight turn to a stride.

I do have IronMan bonus to clear so poker should resume tonight.

Years past I have cleared $600 bonus before 10th of January but at the moment only $150 cleared.

May give up Rush PLO which at times is just a bunch of people playing flush bingo.
