Impacts of Isner v Mahut

The Demon Child is a big tennis fan and she loves Nadal. She has limited interest in playing mostly due to depth perception issues make it difficult for her to return ball.

Yesterday wife asked her to do her one common are chore to load the dishwasher. She was granted a delay in that she was allowed to wait until 'the end of the tennis match she was watching'.

She clutched onto that loophole overnight but she better have gotten off the couch and done the dishes before I get home.

Years from now we will probably have forgotten who won Wimbledon this year but Isner and Mahut will be remembered. It was epic tennis but both players need to work on their return games before I would call this match good tennis. Did they have fewer than 10 break points between them over 138 games?

Poolside adventures

Some of the former residents came back to visit for a poolside Memorial Day celebration. Good food, wine amusing conversation and a lot of little kids. Deepest part of pool is 4 feet so I check on demon child every now and then but am not too worried as she can stand to get out of trouble.

One of the three year olds managed to talk his father into letting him take his flotation assist vest off as he was playing outside of the pool and fell into pool with out any of the parents noticing. Parents did hear his screaming and crying once the demon child lifted him out of the water. He explained to his mom that "daddy let him take off vest" and "he was chasing ball when he fell into pool". Husband is short so he can fit on standard couch. Demon child explained he was giving a good effort treading water but he was not able to keep head above so she helped him out.

Now there is no convincing neighbors demon child is evil

Monday Thoughts

I saw today an LA court has ordered Lindsay Lohan to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet.

I don't care whether Lindsay is drinking or not but it opened my mind to the possibilities for the next winter gathering.

Bloggers issued ankle bracelets and wagering through (Venetian?) sportsbook on alcohol consumption over the gathering.

Obviously Al would be the favorite for average BAC for a 72 hour time frame but others could sneak in for highest peak BAC.

Saturday I played in a small tournament amongst former co-workers where half the entry fee went to the American Cancer Society.

I managed to chip up early with some well placed OBFVs and one river suckout when I forgot that people don't fold even when they have Ac3c on QhQdJh flop for their tourney life.

150/300 blinds ep limped shorty jammed for 1150, I looking at AQs decided to reraise to isolate and ep called for 2k more holding 22. Shorty had QQ and hit a Q on flop with 2 clubs and turn and river were also clubs rewarding the terribad play holding the 2c.

Listening to him explain for 3 hands why his call was a good play was annoying but thankfully his next terribad play was punished. I was completely card dead at the final table and managed to miss a ton of outs when my KcQ could not run down A2 on AcQc4c flop BvB to bust 2 short of money. Saving grace of the turn was it was 1 rebuy, 1 add on bounty tourney where you collected bounty for stacking even if player added on.

I had told weak tightest player I know "Mess with the bull, get the horns" and managed to collect his bounty chip twice getting 2nd as rebuy period ended. He was allowed to add-on but refused when it did not come with a table change.

Happy Mother's Day

Rather than having a dead stack blinding out Al was kind enough to remove me from BBT Invitational on Sunday.

I will be taking my Wife to the Rocky Point Restaurant for Mother's Day. She loves to be near ocean and deserves more credit for how demon child has turned out than I deserve. Despite child's ability to torment me she is pretty good kid. Since I am engineer and generally unaware of subtlety wife was kind enough to tell me she wanted to dine by the ocean on Mother's Day and child was kind enough to text me to make reservations.

I will figure out tomorrow what to send to my Mom. I believe she made an effort to be as good a Mom as she was capable of being and she did create a better environment than what she had. I wish I had 'normal' feelings towards my parents.

Instead Raul Julia as Carlos in Tequila Sunrise said it best:

Weekend Movie Review

Wife and daughter dragged me to "The Backup Plan" yesterday.

1) I feel I need to hand in my Man card but don't know where to turn it in.

Tax Day

Taxes are competed, so I will have a leisurely tax day.

I don't procrastinate but I get the taxes figured out enough in February to know ball park of refund or pay. The 2009 taxes seemed real strange when I owed a grand+ to Feds but was getting a grand+ back from state. Other than years cashing stock options the state has always been within $100 but with my work sabbatical and different tax treatments of unemployment compensation I thought it was correct.

When I pressed the TurboTax Review button it decided this can't be right and led me to a form where I had somehow entered number as capital gains that belonged in income tax with-held box.

Big props to Turbo Tax for finding me a few thousand mistake.

The actual e-file process did not go smoothly as there is just no possibility to convince them that K2H 8K7 is a valid employer zip code on W-2 for CA or that ON, ONT, OT is a valid state abbreviation.

I got in some cheap rush PLO to celebrate and some cheap super turbos. 45 man $3 superturbos crack me up how can someone call a jam for 600 chips at 15/30 with 89 off?

Farewell Online Poker

I have decided that I will take a break from playing online poker.

Mookie is only thing I have played since Monday and I made mistake of shoving two overs and a flush draw against Speaker and failed to suck out. Congrats to him for deep 50-50 run since he spewed away my gift in Mookie.

During poker break I will get out of my comfy chair and try to get in better physical condition.

Simplest aspect of plan is to have at least 3 days a week where I walk or run.

I figure with my access to public transportation it is pretty easy to walk 1 mile to trolley in morning to get to work, for trip home I can walk home until I feel ready to try to run home. I will just run along trolley route so I can bail and ride but last 3/4 mile (1 mile without trolley change) always has to be at least walking.

Tuesday I made effort but only walked 1st mile toward home when I realized it was frkn cold. So I sprinted 200 yards to catch a trolley. Driver was not going to open the door to teach me a lesson but instead let me in and made admonishing announcement about dangers of jaywalking.

In my defense Tasman was clear to top of hill at least 1/3 mile away and I ran behind trolley after it passed. I chuckled and a few of the other passengers were shaking their fingers at me as they laughed.

Today was supposed to be another trolley day but it was warm under the covers and cold outside. I did not have time for trolley and timely arrival at a meeting so plan broken.

Note for quitter: I will spend medals for iron month to keep streak alive one more month.

Mookie Tonight

In an attempt to revive I believe Al has promised a Full Tilt jersey to the winner of an 80 entrant Mookie tonight. My wife was very excited that her favorite niece was going to have a baby, went shopping this weekend and sent the baby gifts Monday morning.

Today same niece is undergoing procedure to remove deceased baby as doctor determined yesterday the heart had stopped beating. I would guess procedure is similar to 2nd trimester abortion (without moral implications or hopefully any protesters). They tried to induce labor and she is still waiting to deliver.

Hope she gets through procedure okay and her grief okay.

and we saw a flop of Qc8h6h, SB checked, I checked planning on a CR because I don't think I h have ever seen a Scandi check behind after raising pre UTG and indeed saw an almost pot bet an almost pot raised so I made an all in raise feeling I was gambling against a set and an overpair.

I haven't played a hand since and am probably going to take April off from poker but buy an Iron Month with medals to keep streak alive. I finished Monday up $200 but just not in good poker mindset.

The demon child has me driving her around Saturday otherwise I would have to make an exception for live poker and tri-tip dinner. We'll see how late daughter keeps me Saturday afternoon.

My wife has still not renewed license to drive and has only made the one attempt at test, demon child can take test in 5 weeks and has a week off from school in April. My money is on kid passing test 1st.

NBC Boycott

I will boycott NBC if they run one more commercial for Parenthood that hints at masturbation or women 'faking it' or any other sexual in nature theme before 10 pm!

I understand this is a rather minor threat because I probably only watch 2 hours of NBC's prime time lineup a week because of their overall suckitude but I would prefer the demon child not ask me to explain what faking means?

I really like the day to day work I am doing but dealing with the changes from the contracting company is really stressing me out.

Biggest problem is I am sure my wife would also need something to alleviate her stress over me smoking pot.

The demon child set me up big time last night when she asked me why I never said anything about John Edwards cheating on his wife. I was part way through answering question when I realized wife was paying closer attention than I realized to how I answered question.

I think I escaped trap when I pointed out that Jesse James and Tiger were over the top with their exploits while Edwards' wife to the outside world seemed to accept situation but since she was a politicians wife we would never know the real story until the last book was written.

My Work Day

Was going to update schematic, UNIX machine that hosts my files and tool crashed, put in request to IT.

2nd tried to create a part in vast system, read process document.

Got to step 2 and discovered I don't have EMCO account put in request.

3rd went to update Visio document. Discovered I don't have Visio.

Tried to install Visio and discovered as of 2 weeks ago manager has to approve SW installs for contractors. There is process and it involves having Oracle account

4th established Oracle account now must wait up to 24 hours for password to sync.

5th Got notified EMCO account has been granted access but I will have to sync up password.

How long until hoops tips off?

Mo Health Insurance

I have decided I am ready for full blown socialism with regard to health care.

US branch of company is moving to group health insurance.

Since we are 2 employees and group health is minimum 2 it means we have to agree.

This means our wives have to agree.

Boss has 2 small kids and his wife likes their pediatrician and have been covered by Blue Cross which is very wide network.

I moved 3000 miles to California in 1999, company at time paid 100% family coverage for Blue Cross or Kaiser. Kaiser looked cheaper out of pocket to me option and I had to find a new doctor anyway so no objections to being restricted to Kaiser facilities, they seem to have one in every town out here. Through 4 jobs and 1 period of unemployment we have stuck with Kaiser.

I spent far too much energy on phone and sending emails yesterday, my final email was always going to be enough to end discussion.

"We can switch to Blue Cross if they are willing to accept after we answer the pre-existing conditions portion of application".

2014 we can probably switch insurance carriers but doubt it can happen before then if I am not part of big employee pool.

Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010

Around 1985 the state of Virginia decided it was still okay to charge more for auto insurance based on age but gender could not be a factor in setting rates.

I did not see any savings in what I paid to insure my car but remember hearing from Becky that her auto insurance rates got jacked up.

Seems pretty standard to me that if insurance companies cannot use actuarial statistics to determine insurance charges they will charge higher rates to account for not being able to adjust for payout expectations.

A quick poll of the household would indicate 2 Obama votes in 2010. Neither of them pay taxes into the system so wtf do they care how much something costs.

I suspect I am screwed on this financially because it will either cost money long term in higher taxes or I will be dealing with higher out of pocket costs for health care as my company moves to a cheaper insurance plan. Being sole american I doubt CEO passes on the savings to employees.

I tried to read the bill but it is a lot like reading a document in Microsoft Word in 'Review Mode' if they had a choice of 'show only markup'. Without the underlying government law being modified it is just complete garbage to read!

Back from Vegas

Things that tilted me this trip (in chronological order):

1) 1st time rolling the dice I established a point of 9 4 times. Since I made point on 3rd roll after establishing point 1st 2 times I decided to hop 5-4 3rd roll of that point. I rolled a 6-3. The next roll establishing point again was 5-4.

2) Georgia Tech played the ugliest 2nd half of basketball against Maryland a team has ever played in a victory.

3) It seemed like every person who got near broke at a blackjack table managed to walk to craps table I was at to buy in for less than 3 pass line bets. They of course would only bet "The Field" They also managed to time it to slow down a shooter that seemed to be just about to go a a roll.

4) 2 of the offending field bettors bought in using 5+ $1 bills.

5) Had one bad beat at poker for huge pot.

6) I was asked to leave Casino Royale when a field bettor managed to walk up to the table and knock the dice down as he placed his "money plays" $5 field bet. Laws of probability do not apply to this situation as dice come up 7 >90% of time. My rant was wafflesque resulting in request to leave.

7) I knew things would go badly after this happened Friday morning:

Was going to head to Las Vegas this weekend with boss and other canadian co-worker, The boss' wife saw 'The Hangover' or has some other issue with him going to Vegas so he has bailed on me, sucky part is I am now within 72 hour cancellation window so I would have to pay for a room I don't use or get free room if I still go.

Health Care

No poker:

Working for a Canadian Company means they do not have a lot of experience dealing with Health Insurance. End of the month I am transitioning from individual policy to a small company group health policy with deductible and HSA. I have no idea what it means for my out of pocket costs and that is my biggest concern since provider is still Kaiser so am willing to assume quality of care is same.

I have still not fully decided how I feel about Health Care 'Reform'. I remain confident that having US Government run would be clusterfuck but would not want to read another story like Otis' 2nd child.

I decided it would still be a good idea to contact the White House and send them link to Otis blog, I also may have included a rant about Hospitals' biggest drive seemed to be run tests to rule out issues (from wife's seizure experience) which I was not sure was to pay for equipment or protect from lawsuits. Insurance companies big drive seemed to be to raise premiums and deny claims and pharmaceutical companies biggest drive was to medicate moods or sell me Cialis or Viagra.

I saw on Facebook a friend had commented on some pictures of a Naval vessel that were posted.

It got me curious about the ship I spent a month on during my ROTC summer cruise.

A quick google search led me to the 'plankowners' site of the USS Thorn. My summer cruise occurred 20 months after commissioning so I served with some of the plankowners.

I looked through the site than ran into one page that saddened me:

How am I old enough to have served on a ship that was new when I boarded but has been decommisioned and used for target practice????

'Good Luck Waffles'

Waffles lit me up in chat yesterday. I had been telling him for months in IM that now that he is divorcing it was time to pursue his dream girl. Of course the tard felt he had to level up his character in some RPG first so I had to put up with his crying in IM about her changing her facebook status from 'single' to 'in a relationship'. I suggested he move on to another blogger who apparently desires some relationship drama so she has more to talk about with her girlfriends.

It was at this moment that it hit me that just like Dane Cook in 'Good Luck Chuck' waffles may be the key to women finding happiness.

The best part for you ladies out there is you don't actually have to sleep with waffles for it to work. We concluding all it really takes is waffles believing he has a chance with you.

So as a service to my single female readers, for a token $5 transfer on Full Tilt I will convince waffles he has a chance with you. Between his delusional self and my ability to goad waffles into a bad prop bet I have to believe I can succeed in getting waffles to believe he has a chance.

It may actually take him months (who am I kidding years) to work up the nerve to talk to you so you may never even have to reject him.

Back to "Start-Up"

Last year I made a decision that I was tired of working for start up companies and the long hours that entailed. Thought decision to go to services company would free me up. Then they pimped me out into my old industry.

Even at the biggest companies apparently they will request that you put in some extra hours to reach project milestones. I am probably stuck working 60 hour weeks for most of February.

Poker will probably limited this month, I may even have to use medals to maintain my IronMan streak unless RushPoker can get me some points. There is no reason to give former blogger RecessRampage an opening to a longer streak just in case he drops pathetic claim that Platinum Star status on PokerStars is worth more than rakeback on FullTilt.

I hate that Gold Star status on Pokerstars may slip away from me as well, I like to maintain that so if double status tournies return I can sneak my way to SuperNova, came close last time they ran promotion but settled for bump to Platinum.

Next Post will probably be my NCAA tourney preview.

At least the long hours this time mean the sure thing of overtime rather than the speculative payout of IPO. It's like I switched from playing tournies to grinding cash.

Saturday Night Rush

Decided Saturday Night 'Rush Poker' would be a good idea.

Lesson from graph above is to get your money in bad.
Hand 1 I got it in with top set against 2 flush draws (neither nut flush draws) and one of them went runner runner straight.

Somehow I find it fitting that Brett Favre threw an interception in Conference Championship game as both a Packer and Viking on throws that could most kindly be labeled 'reckless'.

A large company like Cisco that produces products that sell to consumers as well (linksys routers) closes for the Holiday.

My response to NBC

Got to be honest, I would usually watch 'Late Night with Craig Ferguson rather than 'Conan' when both started at 12:30. My decision to watch Letterman vs. Conan vs. Nightline/Kimmel is more dictated by whether I cared enough about one of the guests or to see Letterman look sheepish about blackmail for his own indiscretions or Tiger after his or recently lately to see Conan rip on NBC. I am part of Conan's audience lead in problem because the only chance I watch Leno at 10 is if it is Tuesday night and demon child wants to see contestant voted off 'The Biggest Loser'.

That being said I have decided that NBC has fucked up and I will not watch the latest edition of 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'. I will also not appear on the 'The Tonight Show' unless Conan is the host.

Someday my boycott on appearing will be significant even if it is not today. Sadly if all my readers also boycotted appearing it would only bother NBC when waffles finally cracks and goes on an angry killing spree or LJ aggrodonks her way to WSOP bracelet.

Not much happening on poker front other than losing last 8 times I have gotten all in pre with KK or QQ. 3 losses to higher pocket pairs, 2 to lower pocket pairs other 3 to mighty Arag. Wish I could be like Hoy and run like god with A-rag once.

Demon Tale

My wife finally drove after 18 month hiatus. Unfortunately to be honest everything that was in the car on the day of seizure was still in car as I did not drive her car very often including a few sunflower seeds that seemed to attract a mouse. Our only real evidence of the mouse was some really shredded up paper that looked like a small nest.

Today my wife and the demon daughter cleaned up the car together. During the course of cleanup daughter found her 'black plague' project which conveniently included a mouse finger puppet.

Evil daughter hid the puppet for a little while and slipped in pocket and waited for the right opportunity. As wife drove to car clean up area to use the vacuum the demon child slipped puppet on her finger and snuck it onto wife's shoulder as she parked.

Screams (from wife) and laughter (from demon child) ensued.

Is it wrong that I feel some pride?

Worst Golf Round Ever

My co-workers and I decided to get together for our Boxing Day get together. It happened late due to my Disneyland visit. We partook of some beer and played some golf.

We opted to play Pebble Beach at Dave&Busters and we manged to lose 3 golf balls.

How bad do you have to be to lose 3 golf balls playing on a golf simulator where every ball hits the screen in front of you?

Strange Day

Work today has such a weird vibe. Company is shutting down until January 4th for the holidays and to make the books look better. When I come back instead of being in office I will be working on a customer site for at least six months so it sort of feels like the last day on the job as well.

I had just figured out a week ago that I was good in new job when I got to visit companies biggest customer with only an hours advance warning. I spent a little time researching design that I had not seen before and figured out who to contact in Ottawa if I had questions and drove to customer. After few minutes in lab it was pretty obvious customer had neglected to supply clock and that was root cause and I was out the door by noon. Customer happy, bosses happy, Bayne happy as no issues with blogger weekend.

Next Year I will basically be returning to my job of previous 9 years just at a more successful company. The other plus side is I already know 2 of my co-workers.

I will be somewhat off net as we embark on Disneyland Christmas Vacation, there really are no religious overtones to that, possibly followed by skiing in Tahoe.

Blogger Weekend Sunday

Sunday I managed to wake up before kickoff and headed to LaGasse's Stadium. I managed to get 2 morning parlays bet and found Luxury Suite #3 arranged by CJ and Al. If I ever hit at a start up again my basement man cave will be based on that suite. Watching Drizz and CJ wagering on 1st downs and punts via the Pallazo supplied blackberries was degeneracy at it's finest.

The wife paying off the purple prop bet was priceless. Vikings and Packers fans interacting is a funny sight, I think a lot of the camraderie is based on they are all too bundled up at games to really hurt anyone if a fight broke out and it carries over to warm environs.

Being a Bucs fan I have already given up on the season so my game focus was not good but the late Cowboys v Chargers game was entertaining.

LJ then took me out to dinner at B & B Ristorante as a reward for hooking her up with a room. After grilling the waiter over how everything was prepared a fine dinner began. I was allowed to choose the wine and found a good $13 dollar bottle for only a small mark-up. Food and Wine was good but it's possible we were a little annoying as the people at the adjacent table did request to be moved halfway through their meal.

We returned to LaGasse's to watch the 2nd half of the Eagle's Giants shootout. At this point most of bloggers opted to head toward Ip while I stayed behind as I was already in my hotel and had early flight (and worked Monday).

A final session of craps was required and as we walked by the Venetian craps table it was noted that they had no $10 tables but did have two empty $15 tables. Negotiations were begun to change the table to $10 or we would walk, I can now see some advantages of traveling with an only child (henceforth OC) used to getting her way as it would not have occurred to me to ask.

A few minutes later the pit boss placed the 2nd call upstairs and a $10 table was opened.

There were some good shooters and a lot of energy as OC was cheering for each shooter based on shirt worn and over time rest of table joined in. There were some tense moments as OC would rathole Green chips in her olive oil stained ghetto purse but then not have enough chips on table for a later come bet or odds. I would drop chips from my rail to keep the game flowing as ratholed chips were retrieved but then OC would get peeved that I would not give her $100 bill for her 4 $25 chips so she could buy in for 'more money' and improve comps.

The craps dealer and I also tried to convince OC that place bets were better in some circumstance than come bets as a)you get paid 1st time the number hits and b)if you have all the numbers covered a place bet pays better than a come bet not fully backed. There is also the psychological aspect that after you get all the points you just don't want to see a 7 on a come out roll.

The young asian dude to my left was shortstacking craps and saw some advantages to the place bets approach (but he was sticking to the 6/8).

At some point Asian dude did ask: "Are you two together?"
My answer: "Just for gambling"
OC's delayed answer: "Are you fawking kidding me? You don't think I can do better than him?" there were about 3 other questions until she got to "plus he's married and I like his wife and 13 yo daughter"

We played a while longer and then decided we would cash out 'after 1 more shooter', 1 more was repeated 3 times until we got to 'absolutely 1 more shooter' and then it was but I am rolling in 2 so around to you. After I rolled I colored up as the shooters at other end of table who had been hot were gone. I cashed out and came back to table to hear '1 more shooter' a few times. I walked away and picked up a 'Know when to say When' pamplet and drew laughs from stick and dealer as well as Asian guy but angry gestures. I waited a few more shooters and gave up saying goddbye and heading to my room for 4 hours of sleep before flight.

Another Blogger Weekend Complete

Being on the job 2 months AND promising to take the demon child to Disneyland for Christmas can lead to an abbreviated blogger weekend due to a lack of vacation time.

I arrived in Las Vegas at 8:00 pm, checked into Pallazo and then met up with LJ, Recess and Schaubs at the Venetian Poker Room. After distributing keys, the girlie ones headed to the room to primp for MGM while LJ and I headed to Casino Royale and Caesars for craps.

I arrived a little late to MGM and led by Iggy and the South Carolina bloggers a $1/$2 game had ~$5k on table. At this point I decided to head to the bar to value drink the 32 oz Stellas. With the 1st one being $9 and subsequent being $6 I had to have a few to get average cost down.

Biggest surprise was waffles was already at the bar, Marshall of course normally arrives after midnight but either the divorce or the drink brought out the waffles we all know from blog and chatbox rather than meek /quiet Marshall. Lots of fun was had by all as Pauly (I think) started idea of chipping into to get waffles a hooker to celebrate his divorce, which led to a lot of speculation amongst the male bloggers about how waffles could improve his game.

I did ask the female bloggers near the bar if they hated waffles (as he insisted)? Heather, Texas April and Betty Underground all denied hatred. Discretion does force me not to reveal who amongst them did express complete indifference. I also learned that there are more craps degens amongst bloggers than just myself.

Saturday marked the blogger tournament which April did a great job setting up.

Also mad props to CJ, Otis and G-Rob for setting up the 3 man team last longer challenge!
And a special thanks to Pokerstars for the added $2k prize money. I would also be remiss if I did not thanks Schaubs for forming team roach with Gnome and myself then bailing to form a Canadian team (really??? have you seen fuel play in tournies?) forcing Mark and I to bring Recess into Team Roach.

Our hostess was seated to my immediate right at the start of the tournament but exited somewhat early to a blogger that shockingly liked to limp call with KJo out of position. In the levels before the 1st break I got dealt QQ 4 times and survived, I probably folded a good hand once and managed to collect a nice pot to get above starting stack when I managed to have flopped quads hold up.

I folded a lot between breaks but luckily time passed quickly as Smokkee and Blinders traded nittyness barbs and Pauly and Iggy traded barbs on a wide variety of subjects. Heather was keeping close track of last longer and at 4 table point she that we were down to 2 complete teams.

My table finally broke to get to 3 handed and I found myself with position on eventual champion Astin. I have to believe the complete fear of me cracking his AA with some suited connectors kept him a small stack not willing to make a move until I busted. I was relatively shortstacked but had outlasted Maude to aid Team Roach when I jammed Ts9s from ep. Unfortunately 7 handed there is still a chance someone will pick up a monster and JoeSpeaker was sitting on the jackAce, despite 2 spades and a backdoor straight hitting flop I was unable to improve and my chips finished 3rd with out me. Fortunately Mark and Alan ran deep to secure the team last longer, my wife was so impressed with the fine trophy that she will let it sit on dining room table until she romves the Santa themed stuff.

The Longest Day

Being 2 months on job means I do get to go to WPBT. But I have already allocated all my vacation time earned to take wife and kid to Disneyland for Christmas. It's brutal to know that the festivities have been ongoing all week for some tards. Hurts a little more that so many others arrive a day ahead of me but at least I can console myself with knowledge that waffles will arrive later than me.

I could probably pull off sneaking out early tomorrow as I am either doing very well or very poorly at new job. My employee number is US001 and I was brought in to help land more California business and get company into bigger accounts. I cannot say that I am good at estimating effort a project will take or writing statement of work describing accurately what a customer wants. I definitely have lost patience with one potential customer who I believe will be a bigger pain in the ass than doing design projects for him will be worth.

On the other hand I was very good at doing high speed board design and interviewed well at a Dow 30 company, worst case I start working on a 6 month contract January 4 but may start sooner.

Being a guaranteed profit center rather than overhead for 6 months certainly adds to the job security. I may have to ask CEO if I can fly out tonight.

16th Anniversary Today

All the overs long ago collected their wagers on how long this would last. I think the key to my marriage is wife is very tolerant of my faults and as long as I don't cross over into Chris Brown or Tiger Woods territory she will probably remain very tolerant.

Wife did inform me of latest Tiger offer for Elin to stick around this morning, I did not quite get idea of making it a business transaction but maybe Tiger's sponsors did.

I made mistake of sharing Chris Rock line that "A man is as faithful as his options".

Wife did jump right into "What are you saying?" had to respond quickly that Tiger is probably tempted with offers on a pretty regular basis where I am mainly turning down professionals during Vegas trips.

I don't believe I blew it for my participation is the Pokerstars added WPBT team challenge so will see everyone in Vegas next week.

Got to follow a fire truck and a police SUV into the apartment parking lot last night.

Wife did not think it was funny when I asked her if she had burned dinner.

There was no fire but there was a car parked outside kid's window with a dude unconscious from CO exposure. Don't know if he was bummed about the whorehouse closing downstairs or the holidays. Hooking a hose from tailpipe in an apartment parking lot when people are coming home from work seems like a cry for help more than a well thought out attempt. They took him away in ambulance but ambulance did not use lights, don't know what that means.

Latest project at work is designing part of a sperm sorting system.

I think when I get around to updating my resume this will have to be prominently displayed.

Non Disclosure Agreements prevent me from going into too much detail. When project was 1st explained the lone woman on project was the one that said "Somebody has to do it"

Poker Table Ratings analysis

PokerTableRatings has now added PLO! "Bell Curve" above shows where I rank in terms of aggression vs. the general population. I think this clearly confirms they have not collected enough information for data to be meaningful.




On this one I am the lonely little red dot on the left.

Obviously data is not that meaningful yet because they have only been tracking since mid to late last month. I think my aggression is a little low because I have been fortunate in finding tables where there is one player trying to run over the table and I call flop and turn with monsters and rarely am afforded the opportunity to raise on river since I am calling all ins.

My PTR report card has issued a grade of F for pre-flop aggression and F for flop aggression, I do improve to a D for turn aggression. I may have to repeat.

Weekend Football Wrap-up

Georgia Tech won a game when trailing by 3 in overtime Tech went for it on 4th and 1 from the 6.

Coach Paul Johnson was asked after the game about going for it in that spot where a loss put the U of Miami in driver's seat for ACC Championship:

"The easy thing to do is kick it, because it puts the onus on the kids, if the kicker misses it you can blame the kicker"

At the time Georgia Tech was 0 for 4 on 4th down attempts against Wake but 9 of 13 the rest of season.

Tech needs to sign him up to a long term contract with big buyout payment clauses before one of the deep pocketed school's decides maybe that option offense can work in BCS.

Tampa Bay chose this weekend to start it's Ring of Fame and induct LeRoy Selmon as 1st member. Since he was 1st Buc and only Hall of Famer it seems like a fine choice.
Wearing the creamsicles and re-enacting 'The Bay of Pigs' game may have been too much dwelling on the "Buc traditions".

Waffles decided not to visit

Last night 5 police cars rolled into my apartment complex with arrest and search warrants for my downstairs neighbor and one other apartment. Asian gentleman below frequently had 2 Asian women in apartment, other apartment also had 2 younger Asian women residents. None of the women have been seen much around the complex but they do seem to have men visit them for approximately an hour most nights. Downstairs neighbor always has blinds closed and sheets behind preventing visibility inside apartment. Apparently they were planning to move out/on Saturday so police visited before address change.

Waffles let me know if my neighbors are not welcome he won't be visiting.

I was up $600 playing $1/$2 PLO as I was having one of those nights where not only was I holding nut hands on flop or turn I was holding redraws that were coming on river and players making bad chases would bet the "scare" card into my new nut hand. I don't think there was a single occurrence of holding nut against nut and having redraw river. Unfortunately I decided to leave 2 great tables while my wife was talking to one of the policemen in the doorway who was visiting many neighbors asking what had been observed about neighbor.

PLO question

Is there a video somewhere advocating raising any 4 cards pre-flop, then potting any flop that hits?

Three straight nights I have been at table with someone who raised >50% of time pre and limped an additional 30%. Player then potted flop > 50% when flop seen.

Last night favorite hand was I held AK99 ds and called preflop raise. raiser had KQJ3 with 1 suit that did not happen to be live against me.

Flop was K99 and I somehow felt compelled to call pot bets on flop, turn and river.
There may have been a flush draw on flop but neither of us was drawing to that.
I was just a little sad not to be able to raise river as villain was all in.

In non-poker related news I have learned that when a 15 year old daughter asks that you change her alarm clock to 7:00 am, 6:59 am is not an acceptable time for the alarm to go off.

My Baby is 15

Demon Child turned 15 today. In California this means 6 months until she can get her learner's permit. I was dreading prospect of being one my daughter gets to practice driving with, we do not have lanes lined with tires and pillows in Bay Area that I have found yet.

Got daughter her own computer for birthday, it is sick how cheap a pute is. Got the lojack on it and facial recognition to boot on it so hopefully we can find it if stolen. Something has been stolen from her every year that she has been in school down here. I would like someone to get caught once.

Been sticking to PLO cash lately. Last night I was told in chat:
"You are really quite annoying" right before he got up from table..

Blind v Blind he had AA79 I had 79TJ on 568 rainbow flop we got all in on flop and I hit redraw.

Previously I had AKKQ on K33 flop, intial raiser potted, he called, I called. Turn Q action was check, bet pot, call fold. I had to raise his pot river bet after river 7. Not my fault that he called flop bet with QQ and no 3.

I am amazed at how much fishier 6-max PLO is now vs. full ring PLO two years ago.
