Full Tilt Poker "Support"
Hello Bayne,
Thank you for contacting Full Tilt Poker Support. In normal multi table heads up tournaments, players have to wait for all games to be done to move onto the next round. Since this was a private tournament the structure was different. Player oossuuu754 had already eliminated three other players by the time you finished your game against mookie99, this is why you were out chipped 3 to 1. Thank you for your cooperation, and if there's anything else we can help you with, please let us know.
Regards,
Aaron

AK suited is a drawing Hand
Before I went to Melbourne I always played AK really strong but at my 1st table I found:
Seat 1: Unknown Australian
Seat2: Peter "Nordberg" Feldman
Seat 3: Jeff Madsen
Seat 4: Me (how did this happen)
Seat 5: Unknown (South African)
Seat 6: Tim "TMAY420" West
Seat 7: Unknown Australian
Seat 8: Owen "ocrowe" Crowe
Seat 9: Unknown Australian
Seat 10: Empty and blinding off
1st hand Nordberg lost half his chips with AK, flop was AK small, turn was T, river was J to South African who claimed to have pocket Aces.
Early in 2nd level Owen busted out to guy in Seat 9 who was clearly tightest player at table in a blind vs. blind situation when after a K92 rainbow flop and Ace on turn he discovered his AK had run into an AA.
Later in 2nd round after one caller I was inspired to limp (200) with AhKh suited (the hand of death at my table) and Tim raised to 1200 and I called on flop of Kc 6h 4h we got all chips in on flop and Tim had AdKd but no hearts came.
End of 2nd round I had AK in BB, tighest guy at table raised and I called OOP to see KK4 rainbow flop and I took down a decent pot with a check raise as I was sure he had decent pair and did not want to be blind to if he hit boat (he later told me he had Aces).
After writing this down I can see Blinder's and Hoy's point. All of these hands were raised preflop.
We were joking during 2nd break that AK was a "cooler" for everyone at the table but me but also noticed I had called with it while they had all raised with it. None of these calls represented more than 1/20th of my stack.
If I've achieved nothing else this week at least I have increased range of hands I will limp with in a blogger tournament.

Limped with a suited AK at Aussie Millions in from cutoff in Level II. Liked the result after flopping K and 2 small of suit and got Tim West (TMAY420) all in with an AK of his own. Freeroll did not come in for me but it prompted discussion amongst the real poker players at next break.
This time if I had listened to what I learned I might have escaped with my tourney life

No Poker Content
I have been reading her blog for a few months and was fascinated with level of anger/outrage that is carried within or beneath the surface and now I understand the basis of anger and bond I have felt.
I am fortunate that my own immediate family was only a little dysfunctional. My father has his flaws but they pale in comparison to his eldest brother who was beloved by the community at large while beating his wife and abusing his kids. When he put his house up for sale one time to move on it was bought by the next door neighbor who burned it to the ground as he "Never wanted to have neighbors like that again". When he did die (from a self-inflicted shotgun blast) my 1st question was did he take anyone else out with him, I was not only relative who asked this.
Christopher Titus claims in his act that Dysfunctional Families are now the Majority. I implore my 6 blog readers that if you suspect that someone you live near is abusing their children or spouse Help Them.
Call the police, social services or local schools where children are in attendance.

Happy Easter
I play a little tight but I do play more than top 10% hands saw a lot of hands that were better for doubling down at BlackJack than playing Hold'em with.
Was at an aggressive table that had chip leader on a card rush, UTG was my only chance to be 1st all in and cards were awful. Was given a gift in BB when down to 1616 with BB at 1600 when one of the mainiacs raised with Q3 and I had QJ and flopped 2 jacks.
This gave me a chance to risk tourney with.Wow they held up.

8 hands prior to my last Columbo tries to steal my BB with a raise greater than 1/2 his stack with QT off. I wake up with KK in BB and push, Columbo getting ~4:1 on his money makes the call and is rewarded with 6-T straight thanks FTP RNG.
Manage to double up twice to get back to decent stack when Iakaris decides to raise my BB with KJ off. I wake up with KK again and push. Iak being at the high end of his raising range decides to call getting ~2:1 on his money and applying his own re-raising hand range to me.
FTP RNG of course rewards his 10% play and IGH.
Please apply everything Hoy has ever said about AJ to KJ people.

Glad set held up.
Was fascinated I was called by A2 + gutshot and A3 + bottom pair.
This morning looked at hand on cardplayer.coms Omaha Hands Calculator. The Chirio had a 38% expected return on hand as he was 54% to hit low and 20% to get high (I guess due to gutshot + backdoor flush).

Not the best Day
Buyers of my House had latest extension to find financing hit today without them securing a loan.
Got knocked out of Daily Double B on FullTilt after AK lost to AQ and JJ lost to AQ (suited) flop was T98 2 clubs and no one lays down flush draw on flop.
Bubbled the MATH after a bad beat.
Got knocked out of Daily Double A 21st, by an A5 against my 77 because he also had enough chips to risk call of 30k (4:3 on his money).
In Daily Double A I was ~8th with 700 to go but did not wield my stack effectively and did lose a couple of coinflips against desperate little stacks and their little pocket pairs.

Tinker to Evers to Chance for a MATH Cash
My QJ (but it was sooooted) outdrew rosinbagger9's AK when I turned a straigght for 1st final table elimination. Which was just a preview of events to come.
Sitting 3rd at money bubble in BB omega_man_99 limped UTG. Looking at T 6 checked to see a free flop. Flop came down A T 6 and I was sure omega_man_99 had played an A-rag. I bet, he raised and I pushed only to learn his rag was a 6 (eek) apparently Pokerstars Fonkey protector was enabled and I sucked out a T on the turn sending omega_man to a distant 4th. He recovered nicely for 2nd, making bdidde the true victim of TurnStars at the MATH.
Thanks for hosting Hoy.

TILT
Not sure yet if buyer backed out due to terms worsening in mortgage market or if mortgage company he was using bailed on buyer.
Got home and while beginning to relax for evening made some comment to my 12 year old daughter that brought such great offense that she hit me upside the head and broke my glasses frame.
Despite this bad frame of mind I played poker. Jacks R OK took the 1st bad beat of evening I delivered in the Mookie, a trail of bad decisions than punished some but mostly scattered my bankroll on various O8 tables before I made "decision" to play $1/$2 PL Omaha on FullTilt.
Bought in at minimum and found a groove of playing solid Omaha. Watched Lee Watkinson sit down (which kept table full) and on his 2nd $80 buy-in he built his stack up overs $1100, including ~$800 pot where he had an overpair against a flopped boat and rivered his 2 outer.
Managed to play solidly enough to return my bankroll to day's starting point and went to bed.
Now I just need to figure out what to do with the house.

This is not my bankroll over the last week:

This is the stock chart for the Mortgage Company the buyer of my house is using.

Life Tilt Home Stretch
On the calendar February is the shortest month of the year. When you are selling a house in Northern California to a 1st time home buyer it can be the longest. I accepted the offer the 30th of January, there was of course an inspections contingency and a financing contingency. It’s been 15 years since I bought a home for 1st time and despite my uncommon name I had multiple items on my credit report that reflected badly that I had nothing to do with. Buyer of my home has a common First and Last Name so has had quite a struggle to get credit report cleaned up and get loan approval. Think the bankruptcies of a couple marginal lenders in February brought more scrutiny at all lenders on all loans. Am in the home stretch as realtor called minutes ago confident that loan approval will go through and next week closing will occur.
I am looking forward to making rent payment without a mortgage payment next month. Will pay off loan on one of the cars and only remaining debt will be car payments for a year on a 0.9% loan. Hopefully wife does not get fired up to buy another house.
I finally lost the last remnants of my once less meager Full Tilt bankroll. Spent early part of month playing higher limits than I belong, and lost 4 pots very stupidly on a single day where I had Nut Omaha hands folded due to ISP timeouts. I need to just give up playing Full Tilt after 1st time this happens in a day. Prefer most things about Full Tilt but have to recognize playing from home I never have problems with timeouts on Poker Stars beyond an occasional delay and there grant of a few extra seconds on a disconnect is enough to prevent folding winning hands.
I will have to grind on Full Tilt once rake back is paid to see if I can restore bankroll but will probably have to restrict play to win I’m in office outside normal work window.

PokerStars RNG complaint of the Day
Got to the Final Table anyway playing as the short stack forever until Fuel started calling my pushes with J5 (suited) and K7 (suited). Went out when I turned a straight against Fuel with my J8 (suited) and he rivered a flush.
Should have realized after watching the brutal hands winning at the Math that a brutal suckout was coming in the cash games.

2 Flavors of Omaha

Rallied in Omaha 8 and through some fortunate hands reached final table, final table of Omah table hit at almost the same time. My play was slow as I did stick to my system of O8 always being on low side of screen wanted to constantly confirm I was making good Omaha decisions in correct window.
Eventual winner played really well and was an Ace's cracking machine. He called a lot of pot sized raises preflop with hands that were bascially 4 out of 6 consecutive (always one flush draw, lot of doublesuited) and was hitting enough flops to do damage. Be wary of Dolph at Omaha.
Table Image and the Hammer
StB and I have a difference of opinion on how to play the Hammer, I can see his point that you play it like it's Aces and this certainly is valid as long as you can raise enough that opponent is in position to fold. Bottom line if the cards have to come up in a showdown at that point they are not Aces.
I believe it was Howard Lederer that said on Full Tilt Poker's Tips from the Pros that you make the most money in poker when you play against established table image. Thought my hammer all in against VinNay in last Monday's MATH served me well as soon after I picked up quite a few premium hands and got action in a lot of them. Beating VinNay took me from ~1900 chips to 2700 but I quickly found my AKs challenged by AJ & A9 and won a race against JJ to get me comfortably in the lead at around 8000. I know I did not show another bluff until I was head's up with Smokkee.

I suck at Poker
Only conclusion I can reach is that I suck at Poker.
Neteller can turn over all the records they want IRS will not come after me.
Was up for year when I won my Aussie Millions Seat, clearly this went to my head and I moved up in limits and managed to lose money in 2006 despite $6,000 influx in September.

Histories Shortest Presidential Campaign (no Poker content)
Obama initially brushed it off, "but later in the day, with Mr. Biden coming under fire from some black leaders, Mr. Obama issued a statement that approached a condemnation. 'I didn't take Senator Biden's comments personally, but obviously they were historically inaccurate,' he said. 'African-American presidential candidates like Jesse Jackson, Shirley Chisholm, Carol Moseley Braun and Al Sharpton gave a voice to many important issues through their campaigns, and no one would call them inarticulate.' "
One day after Senator Biden announces he is running for President his campaign is nuked by one polite soundbit from Senator Obama. Where can I bet Presidential futures (legally of course)?

Aussie Millions Out Day 1
2nd level picked up a few chips from BB when flopped middle pair and flush draw with my 6s9s seen free from BB. Nordberg and Jeff were competing frequently for my BB but after a checked flop and Jeff betting out a little bet when 5 hit turn I called and got to see my weak flush come on river. Unsure whether Jeff was betting air or not. Few hands later had AA hold up against Jeff's QQ on a JJ high board.
My favorite hand of 1st table occured after a limp from EP I called with my AhKh. TMay420 in SB raised to 1200 (bringing pot to 1800), decided to just call to see if I connected on flop as I was pretty sure he had big Ace (don't know for sure why). Flop came with Black K and two tiny hearts (Ka-Ching). Tim checked I bet 1500 and he check raised me to 5000. Decided since we had already had AA run into AK twice at table and that likelihood of KK just making sets was low to re-raise to 15000. Tim thought for a while and decided KhQh would be hand I most likely held rather than set, asked me if "I would show if he folded?", question absolutely convinced me I was freerolling so I answered "sure"
Tim pushed, I called, and he looked a little pale as bricks hit the turn and river for a chop. Next break there was a bit of discussion on whether he had done right thing amongst the more seasoned tournament pros to protect the 7k chips already committed with 20k behind.
Managed to peak around 39k chips before losing 8k with KdKx in a hand where Erica Schonberg had flopped nut diamond flush and Marc Karam had flopped a set of Ts. Think Erica was going out that hand without my donkey turn call but don't believe Marc knew she already had made flush when he put her all in on turn and rivered boat.
Few hands after that from UTG + 1 and (150/300, ante 25) I picked up AdAh, I raised to 900 and was re-raised by one of the locals to 2k. From what I had seen of this local once chips went in the pot he was seeing a flop so I re-raised to 15k (leaving me 12,500 behind), he called my 13k raise (leaving ~20k behind) and we saw a Td, 5h, 2d flop. Decided only a complete idiot would have made call without KK or QQ (even if he has AA I'm freerolling the running flush) and pushed. Unfortunately for me I found the idiot who would call with TT and was gone. Talked to Mark Karam (6th place, congrats) during next break and had to remind him I was no longer at his table. Mark told me and Dags "That was a sick beat"
There are worse things in life than going bust Day 1 in January in Melbourne. Full Tilt did live up to it's advertising and it was "The Poker Trip of a Lifetime". UIGEA makes this seem so likely to be true.

Arrived in Melbourne
Talked to Dr. Pauly in the poker room will buy him shot later.
Went to Full Tilt Poker reception, got to share a bad beat story with Dags, Gavin Smith, Howard Lederer, Ben Roberts and Mike Matusow about flopping quads 1st hand of tournament and losing.
Got to congratulate Huck Seed on tilting Phil Helmuh on Poker after Dark.
Spent a long time with Andy Bloch as he explained why Doyle folding QQ to Chip Reese's KK after an 8 high flop in the HORSE event meant one of them misplayed the hand.
Listened to Gus Hansen explain why he is willing to go all in with 2nd pair and gutshot when he feels opponent has AA in Omaha.
Talked to Erick Lindren about what can be bet at golf amongst the poker pros.
I am still here on a freeroll.

Poker Goals for 2007
Many of goal list include things like play in Main Event and win Trip out of Country for Tourney.
For a lame blogger and inconsistent Donkey like me one has to be more modest
1) Grind my bankroll over $1000
2) Use better Bankroll Management and not play games above bankroll
3) Make Good decisions at Aussie Millions
4) Once bankroll is sufficient to play 22:00 Full Tilt $24+$2 Final Table
5) Play less poker and enjoy Family more.
These should be managable Goals as I have accomplished numbers 1 & 4 & 5 in the past.
2006 was a miraculous year in that I freerolled my way into Main Event in 2nd tourney attempt at seat (1st attempt was a freeroll as well) and then in my 1st freeroll attempt won seat to 2007 Aussie Millions. Would have cashed in 2nd attempt at Aussie Millions freeroll but was mistakenly under impression that I could not win anything for top 7 in October freeroll. With 25 to go I was sitting 1st but I wanted to be big stack at Final table rather than cruising in so I could be "bought off". After busting out 18th learned top 7 paid $18k.

My streak of losing with pocket Ks at showdown in tournaments has now reached 12. Opposing Hands have been:
AA once
5d3d once (Chip leader made move pre-flop I called all in)
AQ once (He pushed pre-flop I called)
88 once (rivered Quads below)
AJ 8 times (including below)
As an added bonus I lost twice with KK in a limit ring game once to AT once to Jc6c where betting was capped preflop. (Though 6 saw flop), KhQc4c flop brought capped betting on flop and turn as there were 4 to the river, my KK, a KQ and a QQ along with might Jc6c only to see a rivered club with an unpaired board.

bayne_s Poker Highlights
2006 Year In Review
Bankroll Growth as been pathetic, will wait until end of year to determine net change but it started small and ended small.
Bankroll Management is also bad, I play above my bankroll. Luckily job can supplement when needed.
Freeroll Play has been spectacular. Won Main Event Seat (did not cash) , Won Aussie Millions Seat (yet to play). From Bankroll management perspective it would be ridiculous for me to buy into either of these tournies but as a next stage Freeroll no problem. Here's hoping we enjoy the vacation in Melbourne. As far as Aussie Millions play goes "I just hope I don't embarass myself" . This is also what Ron Jeremy told a reporter as he walked into Main Event this year.

Main Event Day 2
1st was just 99 but after 763 flop was pretty sure BB had A rag that paired the rag when he led out with 3k bet. Called but then 3rd player in hand raised to 9k and BB went all-in. Folded when I decided one of them had set. Was wrong guy to my left had flopped top 2 and this laydown kept me in tourney.
2 hands later my QQ was taken out by SB. Flop of J42 and turn of 3 took me to rail when I ran into flopped set of jacks. Maybe next year my reads will be better.
Line of tourney was listening to Ron Jeremy being interviewed, to paraphrase gist of his comment was that "I just don't want to be embarrassed by my play"

Main Event Dead Money

Through some amazing rivers (77 beating KK), (AJ taking out AK on rivered straight) and pocket 9s hitting sets 4 times including 1 river I have punched my ticket to the MainEvent.
With a little bad luck of not picking up a hand early I could make 1st break. This wll be a monster test of my giving off tells and being able to lay down good hands but not great hands. Alternatively I may let my inner Donkey run wild because this is just a freeroll to me.
Good Luck to all who attend Main Event.

$200K Ka-Ching
Took $8 to enter satellite for April 2 FullTilt $200k guarantee. Was fortunate enough to:
- Win a seat
- Have Network Connectivity Problems early when I was dealt JJ and not even get to call pre-flop when someone else had KK and flop was 8 high.
- Money.
With 25 left sitting 20th I was unfortunate enough to have AA cracked by 88 which cost me 100k main pot and would have jumped me up to 6th. Made a couple of mistakes in play because I was in 3rd when we made money.
