Bankroll Arc (part deux)

Julius_Goat has a wonderful post describing my poker play for the last week.

Friday at lunch I put in another $1k withdrawal request from my FullTilt account. I knew I was in the midst of a pattern that has now been repeated a few times. I have to wonder why I can't stop it.

The pattern is:
Big MTT score.
Play at higher limits with success.
Crash and burn in spectacular fashion.

Friday night was the crash and burn part of the arc. At some point Friday night my FullTilt online balance sat a little over $4800. $1500 of that was sitting on a $10/$20 PL Omaha table.

I had a hand where after turn I was holding nut straight, draw to a higher straight and a draw to nut flush. When my opponent raised all in I had to call. He had the 2nd straight, 2 pair and a draw to a higher straight but if he hits he still has 2nd straight to my nut straight. Unfortunately he hit the FullHouse to take down pot.

I reloaded at a short buyin and stacked myself bluffing nut flush on turn (I had bare Ace) into a calling station that called me with QQ for an overpair. I had a pair and OESD as well but none of my 17 outs came in. I rebought thinking after watching these 2 geniuses I have to be able to get my money back.

I watched Mr. QQ give away money he won from me + 2 more full buy-ins ($2000) calling off his chips with overpairs against a straight, a boat and a flush. Decided he did not have a read on me he was just a calling station.

3rd stacking of the night occurred after I had built up to $1800 again and had nut straight, top set and straight flush draw, 2nd set and nut flush draw jammed me on the turn and hit a flush out on river that did not give me straight flush.

Three days later I know I have to make 2 of those plays every time and the bluff should have worked given I was only up against a QQ overpair.

FullTilt Balance now sits at $.03 + a tier 1 token.

Final stacking that sent me to $.03 was flopping nut straight and bottom set against top 2 pair. The doom switch being set on me was clearly part of problem but blowing through my stop loss limit Friday night because "I was playing better than these morons" is bigger problem.

Because I was prudent enough to request checks to protect me from me my net over the last 2 weeks on FullTilt is even.

I am expecting to be + an FTOPS jacket and will have a bigger than normal rakeback credit next month.

It just doesn't feel like I am even for last 2 weeks this morning.

Bankroll Managment

Have been running well at Omaha recently so I decided to "test" myself against Mr. Matusow.
I did buy in for $800 rather than the $2000 max. Soon after I sat down Jennifer Harmon sat down as well. By no one's standard was this prudent bankroll managment but I carefully picked my spots. Snapped off one small Matusow bluff and managed to exit the table up $1100.

MiamiDon is still #1 at NLHE money won from according to PokerTracker but overall he is #5 when I roll in the Omaha stats as well.

Did also see the Surly Gnome at the Omaha tables last night but had clicked sit out next hand UTG and headed to bed.

Good Stats

Played some lunchtime Omaha again today. Haven't played a lot of 6 max so I restricted myself to 3 orbits. 3 of my showdown wins came against AA!
1st I was the donkey calling an all in preflop with a questionable Q998 but I flopped a boat that held up.
2nd I called a pot raise preflop and caught top set. Same dude whose AA I cracked previous hand was still a little tilty and doubled me up.
3rd time dude did not overplay his Aces so won a small pot.
The wife and the daughter spent the night at a Super 8 in Las Vegas last night. They arrived a little after one a.m. and got to see some of the cheaper hookers. The wife still seemed a little rattled when I talked to her this morning. Their flight arrives in San Jose imminently.
On ride from airport to apartment Maggie was complaining about not being able to sleep from all the "banging in the rooms next door". Little did she realize how accurate a description that was.

Mookie Cash but

Took 5th in the Mookie last night, down to 2 tables VinNay tried a re-steal with 95o from the BB and was rewarded with a straight. Fought back until katiemother crippled me with a semi-bluff and she just couldn't be pushed off her draw:

Here she is thinking what could I have:

JhXh then 6 outs getting 3:1

T9 then 3 outs for chop

Set then 3:1 on money at 3:1 odds

Top Pair now 3:1 on money at 2:1 odds

Had 32 chips left shoved a few times and went out exiting with "GL donks" in chat. One observer sent me a message in girlie chat saying, "lol you sound like don"

Oops

Wife just called from Tampa International Airport. She returns tonight. She did tell me she was returning Thursday and a 1:30 am landing qualifies but this destroys my evidence removing buffer. If I get done removing evidence of bacon, beef and other goodies and go to the store to get the mostly vegan foods the daughter eats I may still be able to make the Mookie tonight.

If I survive the inspection tomorrow I'll be glad they are back!

At lunch today wanted to play some 1/2 or 2/4 PL O8, added myself to a 2/4 waiting list and sat down at a 5/10 NL O8 table. To quote MiamiDon who was observing and on the girlie chat "this game is not for timid thats for sure". Other than forgetting an apostrophe I would have to agree with him.

Random Musings on life

Family is still in Florida for 2 more days. These separate vacations always remind me that I really like having the family despite my daughter telling me" "You are annoying" or "I don't like you", I can tell she misses me because she got on the phone yesterday to yell "I am going to get you for giving Mommy this cold which she gave me". I have found that piling a few pillows and blankets up on wife's side of bed helps me sleep. Other aspects of wife have no substitute.

It dawned on me at work today that I have been designing very similar boards, that pug into very similar systems for eight years. The boards and systems have more "features" but that is software driven and has introduced very little change in what I do. Have to figure out how to make work more interesting.

House being quiet has gotten old, but poker without distractions has been +EV.

The 2 hands below illustrate a very important PL O8 concept:
Betting a low that is A2 or A3 can be -EV

Home is empty

Battle with my Nemesis failed to live up to hype, every time he attempted to raise my blinds one of players to my right re-raised and Columbo mucked quickly. He tried to trap by min-raising JJ and NewinNov flopped 2 pair from the BB to put him out of his misery.

I managed to satellite in FTOPS #8 and collect a last longer bet with LJ, she came up just short of a seat herself when low draw + flush draw failed to hit either.

The wife and the daughter have departed for Florida for visiting Grandma and Disney World. They will be sweltering in 95+ degree temperatures with 90% humidity while I suffer through high 70 degree temps with no humidity in San Jose.

I get along better with my mother-in-law than I get along with my own mother but my presence increases tensions between my wife and her mother. She is old school and thinks wife should be more attentive to my needs and this causes friction between wife and her mom (or wife and me when I say anything to suggest her mom is onto something ;) ). When I stay away wife and daughter can spend quality time with Grandma without anyone worrying about me being bored.

Real question becomes how will I fill void with them gone for the next nine days?

Watch me battle my Nemesis for MATH leaderboard supremacy. Listen for the whine of lacking the heart to fire the 3rd bullet and the further whine about being bounced after min-raising "the donkey" UTG.

Missed FTOPS #4

21 Hands net $584, if only every session went that well! Did have to dodge a lot of outs in big hand. MiamiDon had given me heads up that KOD had started buying in short at $2/$4 Omaha as his new satellite method and hitting and running.
Tried without success to get into FTOPS #4, bubbled seat is a $75 token, made 3 other attempts where I was within 3 of seat.

A day of scuffling

Spent the day at work trying to debug what should be a simple problem running at very low frequency. managed to plow out the RS-232 port on computer I was using to test the board and by the end of day was at same point I started day except I knew 3 things that were not wrong with board.
Poker play was not much better than work day for me. In the Mookie only thing that worked for me was a hand where tripJax raised my BB from CO. My intent was to fold my 54o but my allergies are acting up and during my coughing fit I called instead of folding and sucked out against his under pair. Entered a couple of FTOPS satellites and finished both 2 off bubble. Last night for me if you held 2 clubs you were beating me as Ac8c > QQ and KcJc > AA when both hit flushes. I did make enough playing Omaha and Hold'em cash that bankroll is ~$20 higher than when day began.
I did manage to rail LJ yesterday as she demonstrated MTTs are not -EV for everyone.

IPOD acquisition Delayed Again

My goal has been to save up my FullTilt Ponts to get an IPOD. The major advantage of using comps is then I don't have to do as much research to choose which model is the best fit for me.

Two of the downsides of being an engineer for 20+ years is I am always looking for ways to do anything more efficiently and I am always working to get the best technology/cost trade-off.

I did have a 7500 point setback tonight when I saw one of these with 7 people already signed up

Went out of MATH when suited connectors were not as kind. RaisingCayne called me with QJo. I flopped a pair Cayne rivered a Jack and went on to win MATH. Congrats.
Happened to me watching one of my fellow Aussie Millions 2006 qualifiers during $500k, Annette_15 was at table and was restealing about every third hand. Saw Annette suck out with 85s against a bigger stack who had AQ, both flopped a pair but rivered 5 saved Annette_15 who went on to victory.

Craps System (Casino Royale Version)

Now that MiamiDon has led me to the evidence of what a losing proposition playing MTTs are for everyone but KOD I decided to publish my insights to winning at craps. Key of course to system is being at table when a shooter rolls for 30 minutes to 2 1/3 hours.

The Casino Royale in Las Vegas claims to have the last 100x odds craps table in the world. This is my system for chasing a big score.

Pre-game
1) Bet $3 on Pass line.
2) Study shooter. Shaking dice before release is bad. What you want to see in a shooter is dice lined up and grasped between thumb and index or middle finger or dice stacked and grasped by thumb and middle finger with index finger on top. On toss you want to see dice land in opposite come betting area and hit far wall on single bounce. Dice bouncing straight back from wall is preferred.
3) If grip and toss meet criteria apply full betting system.
The Betting System
1) If point is 6 or 8 bet $52 across, otherwise bet $54 across.
2) If point is 6 or 8 back up pass line bet with $25 otherwise back at $20.
3) Place a $3 come bet.
4) Each time a number other than point is hit convert place bets to odds backing up the come bets, initial levels are $25 for 6 or 8, $20 for 4,5,9,10.
5) Bet the Come every roll
6) Keep track of money flowing back in from come bets collected, once $80 has been collected increase come bet odds by $20 on the outside numbers or $25 on 6 or 8 until the $300 maximum odds is reached.
7) In theory once the $300 maximum is reached increase come bet to $5, at this point increasing come bet odds by $100 when collected is in order.
8) At this point $1 chips are not that useful and you will need room in your rack, divide up to $20 in white chips by 4 and bet the hard ways for the crew
