My Night Off From Poker

I stayed late at work and missed the Bodog Blogger tournament.

MiamiDon had convinced me late Monday that taking a night off would help reset RNG.

I got home and family was out so I entered token frenzy which I should have gotten a token but someone made a call waffles judged "horrible" to eliminate me with 20 to go to token.

I also chose to enter $28k and made it to an exciting 1st break. Epicenter of 5.6 earthquake occurred ~10 miles to the east. Nothing in apartment broke and I have now actually felt an earthquake. Wife and daughter are still 1 ahead of me. After money bubble broke I played super-tight climbing up the money board 1 fold at a time thanks to FullTilt connectivity issues. I got connected intermittently enough to stay alive until with 53k chips I chose to jam a Fuel protege UTG+1 who had limped 55. He called my 50k raise and my AK did not improve. I went out 25th rather than jumping up to 5th in chips.

LJ then convinced me to try to sat into 6 handed FTOPS Omaha and try to collect bounty on Lee Watkinson. He beat me head's up when my overpair did not run down his top 2 flopped.

Make sure to join me playing the Halloween edition of the Mookie to see how I exactly I get rivered early.

My trap worked

That Chris Ferguson Full Tilt Commercial hits home now. Early on Evy35 made a reasonable pre-flop call defending SB with AQ. Flopped top pair and action was a pot sized bet which I smooth called.

Maybe I jam here a blogger folds TPTK.

hahahahahaha

Q on turn and action is Evy35 bets half pot and I jam and get called. Odds of top trips, top kicker folding nil. Odds of running into Q8s non-zero.

The river Ace rather than one of the other 7 outs was a kick to nuts but IGH early again.

Cashed in 50-50 when just before bubble I jammed JJ into KK to be crippled and just after bubble AQ lost to the button's super-donkey dominated KT. If BWoP had bigger ego she would play KT too.

Sunday Million Fun

Congrats to MiamiDon for his 27th place finish in Full Tilt's $750k Guarantee! I finish a little lower. I won a $26 token that I have already used to register for tomorrow's MATH. Before I get into $750k hands I thought I would show screen shot of bubble boy exiting token frenzy.

I cashed for $412.50 in Guarantee. As I was telling Chad , Don and JJ for the 1st hour and a half I had 0 pocket pairs. For the tournament I never flopped a set.
However one shorty was kind enough to jam me with 2 pair.

The 1st time I was dealt AK I had a fortuitous flop. (I did limp call with it)

I did raise pre-flopwith KQ in late postion, SB called pre and jammed flop. I was pissed and made a marginal call (1000 to win 1700) but was rewarded.

A little later I managed to get all-in on turn with trips no kicker.

Woot now with a river 2 I should loosen up because I am now on a freeroll.

Most of my chip accumulation occurred with garbage hands playing from blinds as BB could not let his 2nd pair go on this hand.

In a rare victory outside of the blinds I eliminated a shorty. The Super Donkey was no match for the Asian Jew.

I was not involved in the next hand but had to capture it because it is so typical of Sunday's on FullTilt.

Late in tournament I went on a card dead spell, I did not properly jam when I still had fold equity, I got to point where I was going to be all in UTG or in BB so I jammed an Ace.

The CO was kind enough to cold call with his monster. I told the boys I was dead before hand came up thinking I was dominated.

Instead I was unable to fade the donkey.

BuckSperienced (Observer): #@&! ng fool

1st hand of a token SNG, the player88 raises to 105 (with KK), BuckSperienced calls (with 77), I call with 89s.

I made some new friends after seeing 7 6 5 rainbow flop where the board never paired!

Apparently BuckSperienced thinks it is good poker to make a call with a hand that is 18% to win against a bigger pair and donkey poker to call with a hand that is 24% to beat a bigger pair.

The point of post is that BWoP can choose to "overplay" AJ, KJ or 99 from the point of view of another player. I am pretty sure after Chad called a pre-flop raise with 63o and busted me out of Mookie that he told me "I paid my entry fee, I can play ATC however I want."

While we are at it let me point out Jamyhawk is free to limp call a jam with 99 in EP.
GaryC can get all in pre-flop with 72o.
Waffles can keep jamming me as 3:1 dog.
LJ can keeping seeing flops with Q9 off and using her luckbunny powers to river 4 nines against me.
I hope Eric keeps making outlandish bluffs at me, I will still fold to a lot of them but picking off the obvious ones will cover the costs.

And numerous players can continue to jam their flush draws on the flop or turn when I have straights or flushes. Over time I will win on my 4:1 edges.

Tomorrow I should see many more plays that I regard as speculative, bizarre, brilliant and fonkeyish at: Mondays at the Hoy
When: Every Monday. 10pm ET

Congrats Lucko

I have now gotten in almost 1200 hands of Limit O8 in the last week. My win rate is 2.93 BB/100 hands. I believe that this has led to accumulation of 10 bonus medals plus a nice chunk of rake back.

The most interesting number to me is the PF Aggression Factor. At .09 I must be the most passive pre-flop player in the history of O8. I am going to have to consider which hands I am not raising pre-flop that I should be raising. Looking at numbers I must only be raising AA2 with Ace suited. Sadly I think this passivity has crept into my NLHE tourney game so I can't play blogger tournaments worth a crap.

Congratulations to Lucko for the Rivershaser's victory. Now go back to focusing on $24k and $4k Guarantees. We'll hopefully see you at TOC.

I thought Chad had the major luck box powers over me with his abilities to flop straights playing crap like 63o and turning higher boats with KJo but at least with Chad at table I get playable hands. Lucko seems to draw away all my powers to hit flops or be dealt playable hands. In last 3 BBT events I have had QQ once which chopped to A3 when board had straight and KK once which lost to an A6.
I also want to issue MiamiDon a thank you for the head's up that it was pouring in Blacksburg and Bodog was slow to move the under. Sadly he also explained significance of the #2 team being an underdog and we both took a bad beat with the Hokies.

Donkarama is tonight, this week I will try to remember to register.

I am getting roughly 3:1 and have ducks. If I am real lucky they both have AK and I am 60% to win. If I am up against 3 overs I am 44% if fading 4 overs 33%. All these are +EV to call, the -EV to call against are 1 pp or 2 pp which I am 18% or 15% against plus I am shorty and only have little over orbit left.

Still overcalling with ducks seems inherently wrong.

But the Math is what always wins with me.

I am even more amazed that the 33 calls but as I said jammer had 1 move.

From there I picked up some good hands and got up to 10th. But ran TT into QQ when I thought I liked the K K K flop.

I managed to lose a big pot early when my preflop raise failed to chase a JT who hit a JT 4 flop and I overplayed my over pair. Recovered and was finally about to get back over starting chips an hour and half in when A7 in SB chose to re-raise jam me pre-flop. My KK was no match on a 14 Ace in deck day.

#36 On BBT Points board

I checked the BBT leaderboard and saw I am #36. Off to a disappointing start but played fine in the Big Game despite early exit and my MATH play saw an unfortunate AQ lose to 34o who called my shove. Lucko then raised my BB a few hands later when I may have been pot committed posting BB but certainly pot committed with a call and I folded a T5 post flop with ragged flop. This may have been worst tourney play I have made in a while. I was going to stop and go but lucko has to call with 1 over or underpair so I should have done it anyway and prayed for 10 but screwed up. I have got to finish better in the Mookie tonight:

Evil FullTilt's bonus Medal Marketing campaign has been a success. Since 140 medals can be exchanged for a $26 token each medal is worth 18 cents. I shared this calclation with Alan but still I try to get medals.

On positive side the main reason for the ridiculous points is finding a Full Table $8/$16 Limit O8 game most nights which I have been grinding a decent profit at. The bankroll is ebbing up but still far away from $7k goal set for December 7. Rakeback this month will undoubtably be a record.

I am still running bad in MTT's!

Timing is everything

I played MiamiDon's Big Game last night. I don't know why? I have never cashed and the higher buyin does nothing to eliminate the "calling station" plays Chad complains about seeing in the Mookie.

Early on:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to bayne_s [Ah Ks]
JD Schellnutt has 15 seconds left to act
JD Schellnutt calls 50
bayne_s raises to 225
JD Schellnutt has 15 seconds left to act
JD Schellnutt calls 175
*** FLOP *** [2s Qd Td]

I have raised my AK preflop and gotten one caller. I don't hate the flop but I would rather see the turn than C-Bet this time.

JD Schellnutt checks
bayne_s checks
*** TURN *** [2s Qd Td] [Jc]

My wisdom is rewarded. If I bet the flop I would hope Jerkoff Donkey Schellnut would have checkraised shoved, this is play Chad or I would make as unless we are up against set we are favorites and only a 52/48 dog if up against set.

JD Schellnutt bets 525
I now have to believe checkraise was planned and he is pissed he didn't bet flop
bayne_s raises to 2,100
JD Schellnutt raises to 2,470, and is all in
bayne_s calls 370
JD Schellnutt shows [Jd 9d]
bayne_s shows [Ah Ks]
Instead Jerkoff Donkey loses a card and 6 outs and decides now is time to go to felt. If he bets flop and cripples me I can respect that but nightmare turn card has dropped and now he makes play he should have made on flop.
*** RIVER *** [2s Qd Td Jc] [6d]
JD Schellnutt shows a flush, Queen high
bayne_s shows a straight, Ace high
JD Schellnutt wins the pot (5,465)
Of course because it is Sunday I get fawked.

I played 3 supersatellites to $1M

Twice I flopped overpairs and had jams called by an underpair that turned sets

Once I pushed (7x BB) 55 pre on 5 handed table, button called with 44 and rivered 4.

The hand below is how I bubbled 24k, big stack in Co is raising 1/2 hands, I have 10k chips, he raises to 3k, I jam to 10k and he calls because at 2:1 he is "pot committed"

6s9s is the new nutz.
I take beats so well!

Al Rulez!!!

AlCan'thang rules! Will have to warm up my 'A' game as I get ready to take down 1 blogger event so I too can be part of Tournament of Champions and play my way to Australia (again).
I perused the Full Tilt Photo Album for pictures of myself and did find me in 4th picture (below)

I don't know the itinerary this year but received this email last year:
Hi All!

We’re only one week away! As this exciting trip quickly approaches, I would like to go over a few details with you.

The Crown Hotel will be providing transportation from the Melbourne airport to the hotel for all who have made flight arrangements with us. For those of you who have made your own flight arrangements, you are responsible for finding your own transportation to the hotel. If you have any trouble doing so, please let me know and I will do my best to assist you.

Below you will find the itinerary of events in Melbourne. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding the itinerary.

JANUARY 11, 2007 – FULL TILT DAY OF ACTIVITIES
We have arranged a variety of activities for everyone! Please reply with your preference as soon as possible and we will reserve a spot for you. Please note that you may only pick one activity. There are three options:

- GOLF
- TENNIS
- OUTBACK TOUR

GOLF – Please note that space is very limited and is only open to online winners. Your guests will be unable to participate in this activity. Since there is a very limited amount of space for this activity, you must sign up with me immediately by replying to this email. Clubs, balls and shoes are provided by the hotel, but you are more than welcomed to bring your own.
Because of travel with family I opted for winery/outback tour. This was played at course I can only dream of getting on otherwise because normally the limit you to 14 or better handicap.

TENNIS – Please note that space is very limited and is only open to online winners. Rackets and tennis balls are provided by the hotel, but you are more than welcomed to bring your own. Please sign up with me by replying to this email.

OUTBACK TOUR – This luxurious excursion includes a Winery Tour and a visit to an Animal Sanctuary in Melbourne. This activity is open to both online winners and your guests.
Yarra Valley looked a lot like Sonoma County, California but with kangaroos. It was a fun day of meeting other qualifiers good wine and the native animals.

FULL TILT WELCOME COCKTAIL – You are invited to join the Pros of Full Tilt Poker for some drinks and conversation at Breezes Restaurant located near the swimming pool on Level 3 at the Crown Towers. Cocktail hour is from 5pm to 7pm.
The "Poker After Dark" episode where Phil Helmuth blew up at Gus Hansen and Sean Sheikan had just aired. I was talking to Gus about some of the plays I see him make on big boy's PLO table when Huck Seed walked up and I got to ask him why Phil had not vented at him since he was clearly one that pushed his button with the "be quiet while I talk" line. Huck was sheepish and Gus piled on.
I also had an opportunity to ask Erick Lindgren how much money could change hands on golf course? His answer was "you might lose $100k, but you don't have to pay right away"

JANUARY 12, 2007 – BOAT CRUISE IN THE BAY
This activity is optional and open to both online winners and your guests. Please RSVP with me before Friday if you wish to attend.

JANUARY 13, 2007 – FTP FREEROLL TOURNAMENT
Tournament will begin at 10:30am and a presentation ceremony for the winner of the tournament will follow.
Last year this tournament had $250-$2000 bounties on the FullTilt Poker pros (dependent on bracelets) plus another ~$50k in prizes for the ~140 entrants.

JANUARY 14, 2007
MAIN EVENT BEGINS.
For me:
JANUARY 15, 2007
MAIN EVENT ENDS.
Andy Bloch was kind enough to explain to my wife and daughter that I played hand I exited on just fine, I had bet more money pre-flop than he would have but had gotten call. Guy who called was an idiot and had gotten lucky.

Q&A Breakfast with the Pros from 9am to 12 noon.

JANUARY 15, 2007
Q&A Breakfast with the Pros from 9am to 12 noon.

JANUARY 19, 2007
MAIN EVENT ENDS.

FULL TILT FAREWELL DINNER – you and your guest are invited to join us for a farewell dinner at the Palladium Ballroom from 7pm to 10pm.
AFTER-PARTY – 10pm to 3am.

*Please note that another group excursion may be added at a later time.

I will be on-site the entire time and will be your contact person if there is anything you need assistance with. I look forward to seeing all of you out there!

Cheers!

Daisy
If you win trip I guarantee your wife will be more tolerant of poker habit! Unless you take someone else.
The Aussie Millions tourney and having Full Tilt as hosts definitely ranked as one of Top 3 vacations I've ever had. It is tough to rank it ahead of 1st time you take a child to DisneyWorld (or Disneyland) or Honeymoon cruise.

Extreme Implied Odds

BB bets $1 into $4 pot , he has $40 behind. There are two callers ahead of you who each have $80+ behind, you have $100 behind.
I decided that despite being 22:1 shot to hit straight flush that I certainly stack BB if he has 7, so minimum 40:1 payoff there but question is is it good call against other holdings?

Omadraw

Lucko21 inspired me to give the 2115 Omaha tourney a try. I even felt good enough about my game to challenge Lucko to a last longer bet ($11 to cover next week's Mookie).

Lucko went out rather early by daring to get his chips all in with the nuts on turn against someone with 2nd straight and a set. Donkey hit the straight as donkeys will do early on in an Omadraw tourney. They are such a minefield! I went out a little bit later on the hand below:

Along the way I sucked out a 2 pair against AA and 2nd flush draw. I had flopped top pair and the nut flush draw and my flop bet committed me. Later I raised pre-flop with a single suited AA against 2 others and flopped the nut flush. It was early so my pot bet was checkraised by a pair and OESD. With 16 left I was the big stack by a little but lost achip leadwhen HU I had straight run into boat and then again HU had flush draw and wrap run into shorties top 2 and missed my draws.

Today was Day 1 of GChat detox. It was tough but I did manage to make quite a bit of progress at work when I finally found crux of problem I have spent past 2 weeks banging my head on.

Ten Things about me

1-7

8. I found this disturbing. I will drop anyone who tags waffles.

9. In my golf career I have hit 4 birdies. 1st was before arm break when average drive was 200 yards but variance was 100 -300+. 2nd was big banana slice where I did not know hole was dogleg right and I was trying to drive the 4th hole's green. My shot was mid fairway 75 yards from pin. 2nd was on the Plantation Course at Kapalua where I hit a massive drive that must have landed on sprinkler cover which aided it's bounce down the long par 5. 4th was due to a patented skull and run approach shot that left me a 7 foot putt. I love golf but I suck at it.

10. Despite my reputation I am not a luckbox. I will rely on implied odds against calling stations and fold when I miss, you only see the draws I hit!

Exhibit A happened near the Money bubble of $400k:

Exhibit B happened in L O8 Monday night:

11. I lived in 7 states plus West Germany before I graduated from High School. 1st 4 moves dad worked for IBM, later moves were because either Dad thought his boss was an asshole or they thought he was an arrogant pain in the ass.

12. My 1st job as an engineer was working at same company with Dad, I lived with parents for 1st year and half out of school and carpooled with Dad. On 22nd birthday after being at job one year Dad was let go in a RIF. It was a long 8 mile drive taking him home. It sucked worse driving back and going to a meeting where management explained why cutbacks were needed.

13. Got my 2nd job when headhunter Dad was using called old work number and was put through to me (I am a Jr.) after listening to job description I suggested he wanted someone with more experience. He asked what I did and had a job that fit better for my experience. I was also trying to get job in Atlanta at same time (due to girlfriend at time) so did not really want to start a new job in Maryland when I got the call with job offer. When Dee who was head of Human Resources at TTC called to make an offer I was about to go to a company meeting and certainly came across as unenthusiastic about job offer due to girlfriend issues. At company meeting they announced the CEO and 4 Vice Presidents had resigned and that a new Venture Capitalist was coming in and he would "evaluate all aspects of company." When Dee called back that afternoon offering more money I accepted.

14. Monster.com commercial broadcast during 1999 Super Bowl was a major factor in getting me to California. I turned down a chance to interview at Corvis to come out here. I had worked with enough people at Corvis that getting job offer would have been slam dunk.

15. 10th anniversary of my brother-in-law Robbie's death due to cancer is in February, he was 36. Diagnosis to death was 10 brutal months, I never want to go through a period like that again.

16. 1st week of college I drank 32 kamikazes (5 parts gin, 1 part rose's lime) shots one night after several beers. I found a nice grassy spot to sleep, a campus police office woke me up and I threw up on his car.

17. I once tried to figure out if I could get to the east coast, kill someone and get back home without leaving suitable trail to put me in state, travel for work almost enabled me to do it. The intended victim gets out of jail soon, for now I will accept justice system worked but I better not ever see him near a family member again.

I have already seen 7 things about many of my fellow bloggers, since I can't unsee what Waffles wrote I refuse to tag anyone.

Cashed in Dookie, could have been a big chipleader in Mookie in blind v. blind battle but after my A9 outflopped jeciimd with 99 small flop I trapped jec for all his chips on a 2 outer and he luckboxed a 2 out K against me on turn.

Decided after week 5 to finally brag about the best fantasy football draft ever. The team has suffered a 2 point loss, two 6 point losses and a 13 point loss this past week to drop to 1-4.
This is a 10 Team league where we start 2 QBs every week and traditionally I believe I can find 3 servicable QBs and rotate based on matchups.
Scoring above reflects the results of the draft plus the 3 keepers I inherited from last years 8th place team.
Maroney, Westbrook and Boldin were my keepers, They had nice 3 week run, woot.
1st 3 picks were Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson and Vernon Davis, woot again.
Servicable QB trio of Delhomme, Losman and Trent Green were most spectacular as I think Losman is only one likely to play again this year but has long been cut.
Got knocked out of BoDonkey and New late night tourney by blackjack hands calling shoves. Always amused that "poker players" mock -EV games in Vegas aand take on propositions worse than Roulette with their calls.

MATH Final Table but Cameo

Early on in the MATH Hoy raised, he had seemed active so my plan was to re-raise but Cmitch to my right noticed Hoy's activity as well and re-raised ahead of me so I folded my TT. Sadly later chat revealed CMitch was making a move with KJ and Hoy claimed to have AT. Attempted to share screen shot above with Hoy and told him I'd laid down TT in the girlie chat.

After CMitch left I decided to steal from Hoy with KJ.

Happy Columbus Day

Current Company is the only employer I have ever had that has Columbus Day as Holiday.

Woot!

Daughter has school today today so the family does not get a long weekend out of town. Live Poker at Bay101 may be on calender today!

Saturday Night saw my 1st live poker since July. The cadillacpoker tourney had 54 entrants this month and paid 9 places. The tri-tip servered during the break was tender and excellent.

Was fortunate that 3rd hand of tournament in my BB 6 people saw a limped flop of 44Q. I was holding a beautiful 42 soooted while two of the limpers were holding a Q with good kickers. Because I'm a man and it was a rebuy I made pot sized bets on flop, turn and river and got 2 callers flop and turn and 1 caller on river when Joe decided that despite his catching K on river for 2 pair that I was BB and probably had the 4. Next orbit in small blind I rose 2 limpers with AdQd, got 2 callers and saw a K JdTd flop. Made my 1st tactical error of evening when I bet too much on turn. Rabbit hunt did reveal river was Kd which would have completed boat for opponent and secured me high hand of night prize as well as 35% of bad beat prize.
I needed to be against LJ because she never believes I could have flopped a straight against her 2 pair.

After rebuy dinner period I was 4th limper into a pot with 10 7 suited and was rewarded with 10 10 7 flop. I was in CO so when flop was checked around to me I made a stealy stab looking bet of half the pot and was called by BB and an erly limper. 8 came on turn and everyone checked (I was "scared" of straight) river 5 brought about fire works as BB had 10 5 and early limper had 88. My best boat of regatta brought me a huge stack that allowed me to take on races against smaller stacks until my arrival at final table.

Unfortunately when the 4 players from my table joined the other 6 we learned they had been more rebuy happy in the other room and we were the 4 smaller stacks. I had only a few premium hands and my open raising was pretty limited to UTG due to aggression of players to my right and big stack to my lefts desire to see flops with weak hands and hitting a lot. I did manage to knock out 3 of the final table participants and due to blinds and antes double up each time for a hard fought fourth. At that point the other 3 decided to chop.

The big stack kept stealing my BB and not once on his steal was I looking at a hand without 3 gaps, 2 suits or a card higher than Ten. He would then spew my chips to the other 2. I got in a few steals but the 240k chips I had when 4 handed play started were chewed up quickly with 15k/30k blinds with 5k ante. Still had +$600 net but 3 choppers above me cashed for $1k more.

In sports betting I have now correctly picked the winning team in 13 consecutive baseball games wagered on. If I had the good sense not to parlay over/under into tickets I would be way up rather than a little up.

Baseball pick for today:

NY Yankees

Not sure of the line but probably over since Yankees are streaky when they hit.

Two Bonus Medals Woot

I am such a sucker for promotions, I think I got a bonus medal awarded before Alan.
I unleashed my luckboxery on another victim playing NLHE last night. UTG + 2 raised preflop to $4 at .5/1. I was holding TT so I called to set mine.
Flop was QhTh7h. Initial raiser bet $8 into an $11 pot. Instead of calling I chose to jam raising to $105 to futilely try to chase out flush draws. Raiser had AhJh so of course called. Turn was 4h river was Qd and I had sucked out a boat. My normal calling would have never let me seen river after 4th heart hit turn.
I also bubbled 3 SNGs on Stars yesterday, losing with QQ to TT all in on J 6 4 flop, losing with AA to 66 where I called jam pre-flop and losing with KK to A5o where my reraise put me all in pre-flop. LJ remains un-convinced that variance impacts us all.

Deeper into Abyss

After reading MiamiDon's blog post today I got motivated enough to look up the hypothetical payoffs on betting the Rockies moneyline.

I saw (952) Colorado Rockies +125, then I noticed
(951) San Diego Padres vs. (952) Colorado Rockies Over 9 (-115).

I decided it was quite strange that when I hit the parlay button I lerned that betting Rockies + Over would be paid $64.13 when risking $20 since clearly Rockies would win a high scoring game or lose a low scoring game.

Now before I hypothetically wager again I must figure out what these lines really mean.

I scraped to the cash in the MATH, managed to get doubled up when I limped an AA from SB and was fortunate enough to have BB call my flop bet with a gut shot and over and then pair his over on turn. I managed to steal enough blinds with air to survive to money despite presense of player who played any hand that you would stand with in blackjack! I ran JJ into a 20 and lost the coinflip when a K hit the flop.

I hope to play the Bodonkey again tomorrow and preferably from home.
